About Us
The denomination we are part of is affectionately known as the APC, which stands for Associated Presbyterian Churches. We are a reformed, psalm-singing church, which came into existence in 1989 (click here to read why). We have four congregations throughout Scotland, and seek to submit to the Bible as our supreme standard for all that we do as a church and for how we live our individual lives. Our subordinate standard is the historic Westminster Confession of Faith, which we believe is the best summary of what the Bible teaches.
In 1993, the congregation called Rev George MacAskill to be their first minister, where he laboured faithfully until his retirement in 2012 (although he still remains with us as an elder, serving alongside Mr Stewart Wilson).
After more than 30 years of witness, worship services in Harris APC were brought to a close at the end of July 2025. We give thanks to God for His abundant goodness and provision for the congregation over this time. We are also thankful for the presence of other faithful churches in Harris that the APC people have the opportunity to join with.
Rev Jonathan Baxter was called to be the minister in August 2019, having served a probation among us since 2018. Mr Baxter demitted the pastoral charge in August 2025, having served diligently for over six years.
The congregation is currently therefore in a time of pastoral vacancy. We are glad to have the services of Rev. Dr Philip Ross (Dundee APC) as our Interim Moderator, and of Messrs MacAskill and Wilson as Ruling Elders. Either of these men can be approached for spiritual advice or prayer. During the vacancy we are indebted to those who provide pulpit supply, both from within the congregation and without.
